Born in Rome on March 3, 1966, Claudio Castellini is a veteran of the international comic book scene. He made his debut with Sergio Bonelli Editore, drawing Dylan Dog, and shortly after Nathan Never, of whom he was the graphic creator.

In 1993, he began his collaboration with Marvel, producing covers for Fantastic Four Unlimited and a graphic novel of Silver Surfer written by Ron Marz, Dangerous Artifacts, a work that won the Yellow Kid, Italy’s most prestigious comic award. From that point on, he became the first Italian artist to work from his home country for Marvel USA, a pioneer of the Italian “invasion” that would follow in the years to come.

He went on to contribute to the “crossover of the century,” Marvel vs. DC, as well as stories about Spider-Man and Conan. He also collaborated with Dark Horse, creating Predator: Demon’s Gold, which received an Eisner Award nomination, and a Darth Vader story titled Extinction for Star Wars Tales.

In 2001, he drew The Call for Batman Black & White, and in 2003 he returned to Marvel with the miniseries Wolverine: The End by Paul Jenkins. During that time, he was the official cover artist for Batman: Gotham Knights and also illustrated several other covers for Superman/Batman and Countdown to Final Crisis.

In the following years, he decided to focus mainly on collectibles, working only sporadically with Marvel and DC. His last work for DC was Man and Superman, written by Marv Wolfman, a story that recounts Superman’s first appearance from the human perspective of Clark Kent.

In recent years, he has illustrated the variant cover for Justice League #48 and for Silver Surfer: Rebirth #1. In 2023, Panini reprinted his 1993 Silver Surfer graphic novel (Dangerous Artifacts, Italian title The Darkness Beyond the Stars). The result is a renewed and enhanced edition of a thirty-year-old work that has stood the test of time and remains a milestone in the superhero genre.

In the final months of 2025, he returns to collaborate with Marvel and DC with several covers: Fantastic Four Fanfare #2, Fantastic Four #1, Death of the Silver Surfer #2-3-4-5, Doomed 2099 #1, Superman #30.
